The origin of the Klezmer Music Festival
The story began in the 90s. In 1987, the mayor of Safed, Zeer Pearl with the local authority decided to create a festival during the summer who was called “ poem in the mountains”. In the same period, came to Safed, Zachariah Liraz who went to visit the Frenkel Museum and saw on the wall a tall painting of the Klezmer on the background of Meron mountain in blue, red and green colours and then came the idea to create the Klezmer festival in Safed.
The Klezmers of Isaac Frenkel, was inspired by the weddings in the Safed Jewish Quarter in the 30’s.
